The West Coast Wilderness Railway has taken out the top place in the Tourist Attractions category of the 2019 Tasmanian Tourism Awards.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in Hobart on Friday evening,Railway General Manager Anthony Brown paid tribute to the team that makes the Wilderness Railway experience what it is.
“It’s great recognition of the work that they do,” he said. “We continually try to improve, and persistence pays off.”
It was a good night for West Coast tourism operators, with a number of awards coming home to the region.
Gordon River Cruises won the Tour and Transport Operator category while biennial West Coast arts and heritage festival The Unconformity was named Tasmania’s best festival or event.
King River Rafting, which offers a popular Raft and Steam package in partnership with the West Coast Wilderness Railway, won the bronze award in the Adventure Tourism category.
Strahan ATV Adventures won the top People's Choice award for securing consistently high online reviews and ratings.
Mr Brown offered the Railway’s congratulations to all winners and finalists in the awards.
Category winners advance to the Australian Tourism Awards,to be announced in Canberra on March 6.
