The Mount Lyell Picnic is a highlight of the West Coast's social calendar, drawing locals plus many visitors and former residents back for a day of fun and games at Strahan. Once again the West Coast Wilderness Railway will continue a long-standing tradition and put on a special return service from Queenstown to Regatta Point with coach transfers to and from the picnic at Strahan's West Beach.
The 2019 Picnic Train will operate on Saturday 26 January, departing Queenstown at 7.30am for the trip to Regatta Point Station at Strahan. From there, passengers will be taken on board a coach to West Beach, where the Mount Lyell Strahan Picnic will be held. The coach will depart West Beach at 4.30pm for Regatta Point and the return train journey to Queenstown. Tickets are $35pp, including coach transfers.
An optional return coach service is offered from Strahan to Queenstown, departing West Strahan Beach at 4:30pm at a cost of $5.00pp.
