During January two international travellers visited the Queenstown station gift shop. They were not travelling on the train, merely passing through on their way to Strahan. One of the visitors, very distressed, told staff that she had left her purse at accommodation in Derwent Bridge, an hour and a half back down the highway, and she did not know what she was going to do.
The staff rang the accommodation at Derwent Bridge, organised for theTassie Link bus driver to collect the purse on his run through and bring it to Queenstown Station. A staff member then delivered it to the visitor at her accommodation in Strahan. All went according to plan and by 5:30pm the purse was safely back in the hands of its very grateful owner.
Several weeks later a letter arrived thanking them profusely for the assistance and the two staff were subsequently awarded the Value the Visitor award by the Western Wilderness Tourism Association. Amanda Wakefield and Rebecca Lay received certificates this morning from West Coast Mayor Phil Vickers and Carolyn Nissen, Chairperson of the Association.
