The West Coast Wilderness Railway has extended its congratulations and gratitude to the entire team at West Coast Wilderness Railway, their families, suppliers, contractors, local, state & federal Government, guests and the community of the West Coast on achievement on a great year which culminated on Friday evening with the West Coast Wilderness Railway being awarded the best Tourist Attraction not only for the region, but the entire state of Tasmania.

“This is no easy task and it doesn’t come without blood, sweat, tears and sacrifice, thankfully not so much of the blood”, said General Manager Anthony Brown.

“There is no one person that can be acknowledged for this achievement as it is truly a team effort and I cannot thank everyone enough. While I may accept the award, I do it on behalf of everyone, those we see and those we don’t.”

“I know there are team members that come in on their days off (without hesitation) to ensure the trains will run and our guests will be happy, when that time should be spent with family and friends. It is for that reason I must thank the families and friends who support those who are part of our team with the passion and give what they do.”

“Our suppliers, while we may give them a hard time to get the best deal and ensure they deliver their products to the highest standards in a timely fashion, we strive to ensure we provide the highest quality Tasmanian product and I know they are as proud to be a supplier of the West Coast Wilderness Railway as we are to have them as our suppliers.”

“While we like to think we can do it all ourselves, we are realists and welcome the support and assistance of contractors and consultants that provide the additional skills and experience and ensure the railway operates to the highest standards possible and has the reputation of being a leader in our field and are grateful for the support.”

“While many may look for the opportunity to knock government, if it were not for the support of local, state and federal government we would not be here today, and with the number of challenges and hurdles we have it is of great assurance to know we have support in what we do, and I wish to recognise this.”

“Our guests; it is fantastic to work in an environment where people just want to relax, have fun, enjoy themselves, and make the most of the experience, whether it is sunny, raining, snowing or all three in the same day. Our guests are always willing to provide feedback and ideas that we can take onboard and make the experience that little bit better, without our guests we would not be where we are today. We look forward to welcoming our guests back, making new friends and welcoming new guests to our great railway.”

“Without the community of the West Coast the railway would not be here today, it’s through the passion, dedication and support of so many people that the railway is here for all to enjoy, which is why we aim to give back whenever we can.”

“Most of all, I would not be here if not for the great group of people that make up the team, both above and below rail, many never seen by our guests that keep us on the rails providing The Experience. While we have our ups and downs and none of us is perfect, we are a family where no two people are the same and everyone has something unique to offer.”

“I am often in awe of what is done and how it is done as a lot of what we do has no manuals. While at times we may joke and say we are a bit of a dysfunctional family, I enjoy coming to work every day as no two days are the same and it’s the people that make me smile. Thank you, and with your help we can look forward to a bigger and better 2018.”

The West Coast Wilderness Railway extends its congratulations to all winners and finalists in the 2017 Tasmanian Tourism Awards.
